mattie just sat at the edge of the fountain. hearing the streams of water crashing down was very comforting. it made him feel at ease and relaxed. the library did the same for him but in it he was in work mode and right now mattie was more interested in sitting down with a good book and a bit of peace and quite.
the other students seemed to be chatting away as usual, doing their own thing. even the sounds of this place, as busy as it could get, was strangely comforting to him. it was nice being around so many people but still be by yourself as well.
the book in his hands today was an old copy of oscar wilde's 'a picture of dorian gray'. mattie had read it at least twice in the past but when he came across a little second hand book store, he just had to buy something from it and being one of his favorites, it seemed like an obvious choice.
as nice as it was here, it was still a public place filled with people participating in various activities. not too far from him a few guys were playing a game of football and it seemed the football had wanted to include him in this game before it came right at him. he heard the exclaimed 'look out!' but it was too late and both the football and his book were knocked into the fountain.
mattie took a moment to compose himself before reaching into the fountain and pulling out the soaked book. his attentions were on it rather than the football that was yet to be claimed. with a sigh at the state of the book he spoke, more to himself than anyone else. "au revoir mon livre [[good bye my book]], it was nice knowing you," he said in slightly dramatic fashion as he placed it back down at his side. he could still smile about it though which was good. when it wasn't to do with his work, mattie didn't take things too seriously. he wasn't going to get mad at an accident. after all, it wasn't as though he had spent a fortune on the book. all he could do now, was think about how else he could spend the rest of his day.
