grinning as her miu miu heels clicked down the boardwalk, gracie quietly reflected on the last couple weeks. she had gone months trying her damnedest not to make friends because she wanted to focus on her school work. to be honest, it had worked really well. for the first eight months of school at bouscher academy of the arts, gracie had been a loner, making no friends at all. yet, here she was heading to a shopping outing so she could spend time with her newest and closest friends at bouscher, brooklyn and aurora. since she had met the two girls, they had become a tight-knit little triumvirate. rory was a second year art student, brook a first year dancer, and gracie herself a first year music major. they were all different, but there was something that had very quickly bonded the three girls together, and now there was no tearing them apart. sure, they still did their own things. they had their own majors to work on and just the past weekend brook and gracie had gone on a camping trip with some of their other friends. but there was still something special between the three girls, and gracie could already tell they were going to be friends for life.
reaching the door to the kolohe centera, the closest thing to a mall on ehu island, gracie swung the door wide and headed to the atrium where the three girls had been planning to meet. she pulled her iphone from her gucci bag and checked to make sure the girls hadn't texted her to tell her to meet elsewhere. that would be just her luck. in her colossal miu miu heels and long maxi dress, the boardwalk wasn't exactly conducive to walking for her, and she really didn't feel like walking back in the other direction right this second. but there was nothing. so gracie spotted a leather seat on the other side of the atrium and headed toward it. it was in exactly the perfect location to be able to see the girls when they came in. gracie reached up and pushed on her fake eyelashes, as the adhesive she had used wasn't fully keeping them down. she smiled to herself. she couldn't wait to shop like a crazy person. she needed new dresses, new mini skirts, new jeans, new tops, new shoes, new makeup, and oh how she needed new diamonds. she reached up and fingered her current earrings, a gift from her father for her tenth birthday. she had wanted a diamond choker forever, but they were awfully difficult to come across. she had never found one in new york. maybe she'd have more luck here.

it was so refreshing. simple and clean. the island breeze, the school, the people…it was just, refreshing. aurora needed this, considering what she had gone through last year. and hopefully, her dirty little secret wouldn't come back to haunt her. aurora had gotten seriously involved with a senior jock as a freshman, and consequently ended up getting knocked up by him. he was a sweetie though, he said he would stay with her at least to help raise the baby, but her body wasn't quite ready to carry a child. rory had a miscarriage early on in the first trimester of her pregnancy. honestly, that wasn't anyone's business, and it wasn't going to be. rory didn't even feel comfortable telling her newest, and closest friends as the school, brooklyn and gracelyn. they were different in their entirety, gracelyn and brooklyn were closer to socialites than herself, they were outgoing, hyper and more than cheerful. rory could be more to herself unless approached first, but she was playful and could get a little off hand if provoked, and comfortable. that's exactly what she was with the two, comfortable. brooklyn was a first year dance major, gracelyn being a music major and first year as well. they all brought at little something different to the table, it kept things interesting. speaking of her two musketeers, the three of them were spending their day off at the center, ehu's nice little version of a mall. rory was dressed comfortable in a long, navy skirt that fell right below her mid calf, and a tucked in white blouse without the sleeves rolled up three quarters. she kept her small pocketbook folded close to her body as she ambled down the boardwalk in her cork small wedges, the island breeze blowing her skirt as if she was floating. aurora, unlike gracelyn, didn't have copious amounts of money to spend, so her small wallet held just enough to maybe buy a nice blouse or pair of shoes. she wasn't exactly looking for anything in particular, rory adored just dressing her friends and trying on clothes her self. or slipping into those five inch heels she felt so mighty in but never could wear outside of a payless, or nine-west if she was really feeling special. as rory entered the atrium of the mall, she tilted her head and outstretched her neck above the crowd to see if she could spot either gracie of brookie. lo and behold, the gorgeous and sumptuously dressed gracie was sitting on one of the benches, waiting for the other two to show up. aurora approached her, hands folded sweetly infront of her and spoke. "gracie!" she began, then sat down next to her. "brooklyn late?" she giggled, moving her purse into her lap.

life is beautiful and i'm gonna live it as usual, brooklyn cauldwell was running late. this wasn't at all an uncommon occurrence for the girl, who had a mostly hate relationship with any and all clocks. that was just brooklyn for you, though. she told all her friends pretty much on the first that if you ever wanted her somewhere at a certain time, always always tell her a half an hour earlier than you really want to meet. in the girl's defense, however, it wasn't entirely her fault today that she was late. her dance instructor had cornered her on the quad this morning and pretty much demanded that she do come do a class, even though she was supposed to have the day off, and so of course, being the dedicated brooklyn, she had gone, and of course, being a dedicated instructor, they had gone over time. so clearly the fact that she was late, at least today, was not her fault.
she scurried into the kolohe centera looking harried and rushed. she knew she was late, and she didn't like being late, but the poor girl genuinely couldn't help it. it was the work of only a few seconds to find her two best friends, sitting together on a bench, and, if she knew them at all, discussing the fact that she was late...as usual. with a heavy sigh, she made her way over, glancing at them and then down at herself. "geeze, thanks for letting me know this was a dress up affair" she teased, staring down at her own sweater and simple jeans, which might have been dressy in and of themselves if not for the slippers she wore with them, which totally dressed the whole ensemble down. you guys make me feel under-dressed" she shook her head mournfully and then grinned at them.
"where are we heading first?" she asked them. brook wasn't a huge shopper herself, but on outings like this it was fun. she wasn't one of those girls who worried too terribly much about what she looked like. she was comfortable enough in her own skin to not figure she needed clothes to make her look good. in fact, one of her endearing charms was that she didn't care how she looked, how ridiculous or stupid, as long as she was making you smile, it was worth it. she glanced back and forth between her two best friends expectantly. on these trips, they were the ones who got to make the command decisions. she was just along for the ride.

giggling when she spotted the gorgeous and simply dressed rory looking for her, gracie smiled to herself, ready for the day's fun to begin - and whatever rory's crack about brook's lateness would be. as the girl got closer, gracie patted the seat on the bench next to her. as expected, rory sat down and quickly turned to gracie, asking simply if brook was late. gracie laughed and tugged at the dorm key hooked to the gold chain around her neck. "it appears that way," she said, smiling to her friend as she examined the girl's outfit. gracie herself had never really had a style to call her own. she simply wore what she found cute. she loved long skirts and dresses, but on other days she wanted to wear the shortest item she could find in her wardrobe. honestly, she just loved to switch it up. rory, on the other hand, an artist at heart, had a very unique style. the girl was very into older-looking wardrobes and it totally rocked on her. today, rory wore a long navy blue skirt and a white three-quarter length blouse tucked in. she looked sexy in a simple, refined way.
finally, gracie spotted brook's blonde head bobbing along into the kolohe center. gracie held up her hand to alert brook of where they were at the exact moment that the blonde, now standing on her tip-toes, spotted the two girls. almost before she was in earshot, brook started harping on the girls for not alerting her of the dress code. gracie rolled her eyes. "you know us," she said, "we don't care what you wear." she looked pointedly at brook's slippers for a second before responding to brook's question of where they were heading first. "to get you some shoes," she said, breaking into an all-out grin. she loved messing with brook about her choice of clothing. while gracie's clothing was all over the place and constantly changing and rory's was refined and subtle, there was nothing brook liked more than to be comfortable. and gracie truly envied it. gracie had spent the entire camping trip last weekend wishing she had been smart enough to wear sweatpants rather than her admittedly most comfortable pair of jeans which happened to be upwards of four hundred dollars and incredibly stiff.
gracie hooked arms with her two best friends and began pulling them toward the boutique closest to them. it was one of gracie's favorite stores on the island. it housed strictly accessories - everywhere from purses to jewelry to hair pieces to shoes - and everything in the store was assorted by color. gracie had found many items to match specific outfits in the boutique and it was always one of the first as well as one of the last stores she went to when she went to the kolohe center - not that she had been there too many times yet. gracie sighed as she crossed the threshold into the boutique. she had been focusing too hard on school, and not enough on play. this kind of craziness was too much stress for a girl her age to handle. she was supposed to be having fun and making friends, not doing homework every friday night. she had realized that when she went home for christmas break and had made an effort to change since arriving back on ehu island.

rory waved enthusiastically as brooke bounced her way into the center, smiling away like she always did. she was such a joyful girl, especially in the presence of her friends. trips like this were always a wonderful break from the trials and tribulations of the academy. brook was dressed comfortably, her sweater insanely cute and the slippers inviting. rory's small wedges were adorable, and relatively comfy but no where near as pleasant!
"geeze, thanks for letting me know this was a dress up affair" rory giggled, listening to gracie's reply. grace always seemed like the leader of that little pack of friends, but it fit. aurora was in no way a dominant figure, and brooke needed someone that could calm her down occasionally! but that's what aurora treasured the most, the fact that they all blended so well. "don't worry brookie, i think you look cute!" she grinned endearingly and stood up. it was silly hearing the banter that went on between the other two, the ever so in vogue gracie teasing the laid back brooklyn about her choice in style. it was all for fun though, rory didn't think grace ever could mean it. for a girl with more money than the world, gracelyn was truly sweet, which was a refreshing twist on the classic stuck up bitch.
with their arms interlocked with gracelyn's, brooklyn and aurora were lead into a nice boutique that definitely wasn't for the destitute. all the accessories were displayed in an aesthetically pleasing manner, the colors designed to pop and grab ahold of your attention. after gracie let go of them, aurora wandered off towards the back of the room where gorgeous gold and bronze jewelry, hairpins, and sandals were placed. gently, she picked up a stunning necklace with an orangy-bronze stone on a golden chain. peering into the mirror, she held it to her chest, mock trying it on, to see if it even would be worth looking at the price. rory pulled it away, and turned the stone over to see a price that wasn't quite in her zone. it made her think about how nice it would be to just have that sort of access to the money gracelyn had, to the point where nothing could ever be out of her reach. sixty dollar necklaces would be like a walk in the park for her.
she didn't sigh, nor did she pout one bit as she put it back. a little of the reason was she didn't want it to make it look like the reason she had to hang it back up was because of the price tag…but her disgusted face looked more like she had smelled something unpleasant rather than it wasn't flattering against her. rory looked towards the other two, and called out towards them in the appropriate manner a small boutique could handle.
"have you guys found anything nice?" her voice was dulcet and melodic, not a intimation present of her disappointment.

life is beautiful and i'm gonna live it brook was definitely not much of a fashionista, and so she linked arms with gracie and let the other girl drag her into a boutique. brook didn't particularly come from money herself, at least not like grace. her mother did well enough, but brook remembered the days too well when money was tight, and as a result, she was still a bit of a penny pincher. she didn't buy anything she didn't absolutely adore, unless it was a necessity, like ballet slippers, and usually she bought it as cheap as she could. she loved thrift stores--cheap and there were way more hidden gems in them than a person might think. for instance, the jeans she was now wearing were from a second hand shop back in connecticut, and they were one of her favorite pairs. that was the thing about second hand jeans--they were already all soft and broke in, and tended to just be more comfortable than new jeans, at least in brooklyn's mind. boutiques like the one gracie had just led them into were definitely not her cup of tea, but she wasn't really here to shop, just to hang out with her girls.
she looked up to see rory examining a pretty bronzey necklace. for the life of her she couldn't understand why aurora went by rory. aurora was such a gorgeous name, and rory was so...well, boyish. she herself found her name to be...not juvenile, exactly, but cute, and fun. brooklyn. brook. it wasn't elegant like aurora. not that she would have fit an elegant name, anyway. cute and fun and playful was definitely way more fitting for the blond.
the girl found her eyes drawn to a pair of sapphire-looking earrings, small and simple, but elegant and pretty, too, laid into silver. she picked them up to examine them. they weren't at all the sort of things she'd wear herself, but they made her think of her mother, who's favorite color was blue and who absolutely adored sapphires. she bit her lip a little as she set the earrings back and turned her focus towards aurora. thinking of her mother made her homesick. brooklyn and the woman who had given birth to her, as well as her little brother, were all extremely close. that was far and away that hardest part of being here at ehu--being away from her tightly knit family. it was worth it, though. she forced her mind of those thoughts and went to join aurora. "no?" she asked, curious as to why her friend had putt he necklace down. it would have looked gorgeous on her, the color perfect for her skin tone. her blue eyes traveled to gracie. "whatcha got?" she asked, by far more interested in what her friends bought than buying anything for herself.

gracie watched as rory picked up a golden necklace with an orangey-bronze stone in the center. her friend held it up to her chest and gracie watched in awe as the light reflected off of the stone. it worked so well with rory's skin tone and hair color, but when rory flipped it over and checked the price she put it right back down. putting down the black diamond studs she had been looking at but decided were too gauche for her pale skin, gracie headed in rory's direction, which brook had recently inhabited as well. she picked up the necklace rory had just put down, and, with a twinkle in her eye, she headed toward the cash register. she didn't say a word to her friends, though she knew they were staring her down, and as she handed over her black amex, she told the cashier to gift wrap the necklace. as he did so, she turned around and examined a pair of turquoise ankle-wrapped wedge heels.
"done," the cashier said, handing her the bag. gracie smiled thankfully and turned on her heel, heading back toward rory. she grinned and handed the girl the little black bag with the delicate floral tissue paper exploding from it. "there was no way in hell i was letting you leave without that necklace," gracie said, exploding in happiness. if there was one thing she enjoyed far more than shopping for herself, it was shopping for her friends. she had a feeling rory would attempt to object, but the store had a no return policy and the necklace would look awful with gracie's red-tinted brunette locks. but on aurora, it was perfect, and gracie couldn't pass up an opportunity to treat one of her best friends to something nice. it just happened to be one of the things she loved to do. none of her friends ever asked for anything, though she knew that they knew she was loaded, but gracie knew there were things that they just wished they had the money to splurge on. gracie just happened to have that money and she was more than happy to share in her good fortune.

the look upon rory's face was pure terror as gracie waltz over in her clicking stiletto's to grab up the gorgeous stone she had put carefully back on the bust model. she knew gracelyn was going up to pay for it, and she knew it was going to be a gift, but rory always felt obligated to pay someone back when they give her a gift. sometimes if the gift was luxurious, she wanted to reimburse them. back in freshmen year, that senior boyfriend had invested to buy her a gorgeous pair of earrings shaped like flowers, but each petal was a gorgeous champagne colored stone. aurora was ecstatic, but felt so awkward accepting them because she knew that she couldn't afford to buy or refund him. "oh…no plea-" aurora's inaudible plead was futile, gracie was ambitious as they came.
rory shuffled her eyes over to brooke, as if she was waited for the boisterous blonde to use her big voice to speak up for her. gracie clicked back on over to the girls and held out the nicely packaged gift towards the girl. "there was no way in hell i was letting you leave without that necklace," gracie wasn't doing it to show off her wealth, but instead in the pure interest of rory. aurora blushed, her nose scrunching and cheeks puffing out slightly. "you really didn't need to do that…i don't need this necklace" she implored in gentle fashion, though she was obviously flustered. she accepted the gift though, and held the string handles of the bag tightly by her side. "did you two find anything nice in here?" rory said, knowing that she should change the subject because nothing would change gracie's stance on buying things generously for her friends. "we should go to a shoe store next..i've always wanted to try on shoe like that!" she mentioned joyfully, motioning towards gracie's monumental heels.
