kenan was born on christmas day directly into the family of his adopted parents, paul and linda luther. from there he grew up along the canals of venice beach, los angeles with his brother martin. his parents are reformed rastafarians, adamant buddhists, and local drug lords. you'd think growing up in such an unusual situation, and/or being the sole caucasian in his immediate family would put a damper on his personal growth, but in actuality it contributed to his soul more than it robbed him from it.
kenan and martin spent most of their youth along the boardwalk, fostering creative endeavors along with strengthening their street smarts. kenan received his first camera at the age of twelve, from a distant aunt and began to put his inspirational surroundings and exceptionally interesting friends and family to use. his first project was a film shadowing of his mother called sheba and the moon which he presented to his seventh grade class. from there he was ushered into a photography program at an all boys school further in town. this put a toll on his relationship with martin, who began attending public high school in venice at the time, which was never to be regained.
as kenan evolved into a teenager, he was greeted with more face planting reality checks than he'd even realized had needed to be payed attention to before. kenan adjusted horribly to his new position as an eighth grade art student. he got into fist fights and snuck girls into the courtyard. he failed all of his classes except for music and french literature, and consequently was sent to find a reformatory school for his sixteenth year.
it was in this process of hunting for a dream school that kenan found more purpose in his life than eating 99 cent pizza on the boardwalk everyday with the hobos he paid to do his math homework. kenan nursed a sick hangover the day after his sixteenth birthday and spent the evening that followed online, reading his astrology natal chart and contemplating his options for the future. he decided to begin to take his passion for filming skateboarders on the boardwalk and turn it into something real. he certainly couldn't go to real college or follow in his father's footsteps.
kenan found peace of mind and calmed his nerves. he stopped hanging around the streets as much and stopped fighting for his final semester of the eighth grade. he began to smoke pot on a regular basis, but for reasons closer to his heart. he explored depths of spirituality and scowered away from the venice social scene during his last season there.
with a newly refined kind heart and a recently embossed compassion for the the world and his art, kenan applied and within a month enrolled in bouscher academy of the arts. ehu island made a perfect recluse for kenan, who had grown bored of the everyday scene around venice, and was not fond of the alternate downtown los angeles. ehu island complemented kenan's new spirituality, while bouscher fed his new addiction to the art of film making.
currently a fourth year, kenan has progressed more as an everyday drug dealer, party dj, notoriously chill nigguh and skate boarding/surfing enthusiast rather than as a serious film maker. (last year he faced scandals revolving a short film featuring first year ramilda matsen that almost convicted him of possession of child pornography. since then he hasn't done much other than surfing montages and party video graphs.) kenan is more afraid of graduation ever, and while a nice guy who is really in touch with the earth and the streets and his god, still struggles with facing reality, adulthood, and all of the responsibilities that come with it as they rush towards him while graduation runs near.
