------------------------------------------------ { kenan crushed his peppermint wrapper under his foot as he stood outside of o'day's all hours pub, quickly before going in. it was one of those melt in your mouth peppermints, insanely good stuff. perfect solution for the couch bumming weed breath he was harboring. kenan was meeting his buddy austin for drinks at this recently trendy pub place. the two hadn't had any one on one bro time in a while, and kenan felt like such a teenage girl, he had so much to tell austin. basically, he just wanted to talk about the wonder of him still passing his courses and how awesome aspen was, though.
kenan headed on in, ordering a cheap draft beer at the bar as he waited for austin. at least he wasn't running late, like somebodddy. kenan was such a child, making these fictitious competitions in his head just so he could win. kenan leaned up against on elbow resting on the bar and turned the side, watching the normally empty stage as it was lit up with a line trailing to the side of it. it was 'open mic night' or some shit, kenan remembered. he smirked to himself as two drunken first year girls ran onto the stage, singing an a capella duet of 'stand by your man.' if kenan wasn't a happily taken guy, he'd so take advantage of this. he was super tempted to take a video on his phone and send the busty girls falling all over each other to austin as motivation to hurry his ass up and get there.

- -- - -- - -- - -- - -- - -- - -- - -- - -- - -- - -- - * taking a long drag of his cigarette before flicking it to the floor, austin entered the newly favourite pub of the island; o'day's all hours. the bell that would've normally tinkled whenever someone entered the place was unheard of as different mixtures of smoke swirled around him. in an unknown sense, it illuminated the already lit stage where two first year girls were singing their hearts out with their own personal drunken rendition of the song "stand by your man." if he wasn't as late as he was, austin would've normally taken the time to give a silent smile or two towards the girls who were obviously having the time of their life, but he was here due to an important chat up with his friend; kenan and finding him was austin's current goal.
seeing a familiar dark hair facing the stage, austin headed towards the bar area of the pub. he could see the dark haired person smirking at the sight of the two girls and it was then that austin knew that it that was kenan. even though already taken, kenan was the type of guy who still had a bit of a wandering eye. it was that quality that made austin want to currently whack him with the abundance of papers that he had under his arm. nonetheless, austin took the peace way and sat himself on the stool in front of his friend. he quickly gave a look and nod to the bartender, signaling for a beer. as he placed the stacks of papers next to him on the bar table, austin flashed a quick apologetic smile towards his friend. "hey, sorry for running late. english poetry kind of kept me up back at the academy. how've you been?"

------------------------------------------------ { kenan laughed as austin sat down with a pile of english papers, hitting the bar before he did. "damn africa, what happened?" kenan had been saying that a fuck ton recently. must have been all the thc. he'd been on it when aspen made him watch mean girls four times in one night. crazy bitch. "i've been good bro, i've been really good. you know, it's warm out again so i'm just kickin', soaking it up." kenan didn't even know what he was talking about most of the time, but somehow he made enough conversation to always have someone around him. kenan nodded to the pile of papers. "how you been, man? is that all school or is that just you doing you?" kenan knew austin was a writer and was constantly pestering him about his stuff. kenan liked to read about crazy shit. austin's ideas always led to new ones for himself.
"so it's like open mix night or some shit," kenan mentioned as he pounded his fist on the bar, begging for another beer. kenan wanted to be good and drunk by the end of the night. he'd had a tense day, meaning he'd attended half of one class, and just couldn't handle it anymore. he needed to get on the beach or something. hopefully aspen would be home when he left. he needed her, if you know what i mean. "but yeah, those bunnies over there were just trying to own this place." a guy on a banjo was now center stage. "i don't know, i'm feeling like a pull some pretty good electric light orchestra out of my ass in uh" kenan looked at his watch as well as his empty beer mug, "i'd say in about an hour, tops." kenan cracked himself up, man.
